Samsung invests in Memories.ai to advance large-scale video analysis

Samsung has backed Memories.ai, a startup developing Artificial Intelligence-powered tools to analyze and index massive amounts of video footage.

Samsung has participated in a seed funding round for Memories.ai, a startup revolutionizing large-scale video analysis using artificial intelligence technology. The company´s platform is engineered to process and contextualize up to 10 million hours of video content, offering advanced features like searchable indexing, tagging, segmenting, and aggregation for vast footage libraries. The seed round, led by Susa Ventures and including Samsung Next and Fusion Fund, underscores strong investor interest in next-generation video data solutions, though the exact funding amount remains undisclosed.

Memories.ai was co-founded by Dr. Shawn Shen, previously a research scientist at Meta’s Reality Labs. The startup seeks to overcome limitations of current artificial intelligence models, which often struggle to interpret the context of videos longer than a few hours. By drawing inspiration from human visual memory, Memories.ai aims to enable security companies to efficiently review extensive surveillance archives and help marketing firms analyze and compare the effectiveness of video campaigns. The platform removes irrelevant noise, compresses vital moments, and constructs an indexing and aggregation layer for rapid search and summary reporting.

Samsung Next´s involvement is motivated by the technology’s potential for on-device computing, which enhances privacy by reducing dependency on cloud storage of sensitive video data. With its new capital, Memories.ai plans to expand its team and further refine its search capabilities. The startup is entering a competitive field, with rivals like mem0, Letta, TwelveLabs, and tech giants such as Google all developing memory layers or contextual tools for artificial intelligence in video. However, Memories.ai distinguishes itself with a horizontal approach intended to work across diverse models and video types. As companies including Samsung and Micron intensify development in high-bandwidth memory and intelligent systems, Memories.ai’s technology could find applications not only in marketing and security, but also in fields like robotics and autonomous vehicles.
